West Ham star Declan Rice divides fans with ‘Gun Lean’ dance celebration
Hammers midfielder faced the wrath of social media only a month ago after opting to play for England over Ireland
DECLAN RICE has once again divided fans on social media but this time the West Ham midfielder was in the spotlight for his dancing, not his nationality.
With seven minutes on the clock, the 20-year-old gave the Hammers an early lead against Newcastle with a powerful header from a Robert Snodgrass corner.
It was Rice's second goal for his boyhood club and he took a leaf out of future England team-mate Jesse Lingard's playbook by performing a 'Gun Lean' celebration.
Last month, Rice faced sick "death" jibes after switching his allegiance from the Republic of Ireland following talks with Gareth Southgate.
While social media hasn't been as cruel to the West Ham star this time around, Rice's rhythm was heavily called into question for whipping out the popular dance move.
The Gun Lean hails from a track with the same name by Russ, and went viral after Lingard mimicked the craze when he netted a penalty against Cardiff City.
While the Manchester United star escaped critique for his ode to the dance, Rice wasn't as fortunate with one fan writing: "Declan doing the gun lean has ruined my whole weekend."
Twitter user Mink Phillips agreed with that post, saying: "Declan rice just done the gun lean and now I’ll never listen to that song again."
Others commented: "Declan Rice single handedly ruined the gun lean dance", and, "Declan Rice really just did the most rhythmless Gun Lean ever..."
The midfielder did earn some plaudits for his choice of celebration though, with one stating: "Declan Rice gun leaning just make him England captain now."
In January, Sun Sport revealed how Rice's West Ham future was uncertain a few years ago but now it appears his team-mates are the one's sweating on their future.
The club are planning a massive striker clear-out to rebuild in the summer, with aims to sell Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez.
West Ham are prepared to give boss Manuel Pellegrini a major warchest but they are keen to get some of their £100,000-a-week earners off the wage bill.
Striker Arnautovic, who wanted to move to China in January, extended his contract at the club but they are still keen to sell this summer.
