James Garner, 17, Angel Gomes, 18, Tahith Chong, 19, Mason Greenwood, 17, and Diogo Dalot, 19, will all start on the sidelines.

The odds are against United after they were thumped 2-0 at home in the first-leg after goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe.

Solskjaer's team selection was met with mixed reviews on social media after the squad was announced.

Alongside an emoji with love hearts for eyes, one fan wrote: "The academy talent on the bench."

United quoted the tweet and added the caption: "You know it. A big night for some of our youngsters."

Another supporter said: "Three of you can write your names into United history tonight, never to be forgotten no matter what comes afterwards. Make it count."

But some were less confident about the thought of their academy star's coming up against the likes of Mbappe.

One said: "We're losing this fellas, but we're still UNITED."

Fans questioned Solskjaer's decision to start with a 5-3-2 formation, but hinted it will change when Diogo Dalot is introduced.

And Twitter users urged Fred to silence his critics on the main stage after being named in the starting XI.

United are missing Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Matteo Darmian, Alexis Sanchez, Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones.
