Jordan Henderson injured in huge Liverpool blow during first half against Bayern Munich
Liverpool captain limped off with an ankle injury after just 12 minutes of the second leg at the Allianz Arena in Germany
LIVERPOOL were dealt a huge injury blow when captain Jordan Henderson limped off early in their clash with Bayern Munich.
The Reds skipper hobbled to the sidelines with a twisted ankle and was replaced by Fabinho just 12 minutes into the second-leg win at the Allianz Arena.
Henderson went down in the sixth minute after a clash with James Rodriguez and needed treatment from the Liverpool medical staff.
The Reds captain tried to run off the injury after having his foot strapped up again.
But Henderson couldn't continue for much longer as he was replaced by Fabinho after 12 minutes.
Jurgen Klopp said: "It's a big night with a little shadow that is Hendo's twisted ankle.
"It's Hendo so he's a hard one, but we have to see, of course. It looks hopefully not that serious but for tonight we had to change."
Klopp made two midfield changes from the win over Burnley on Sunday - bringing in Henderson and James Milner for Fabinho and Adam Lallana.
The Liverpool boss explained: "We wanted as many fresh legs on the pitch as possible.
"Henderson was not involved in last game and Fabinho has played last five or six.
"We trained with him there in that position - we wanted to, not to rest Fabinho, but we wanted to bring in fresh legs and Hendo had fresh legs but unfortunately that didn't help with the ankle."
But that plan was thwarted early on as Fabinho was forced to enter the game just 12 minutes in.
Liverpool booked their spot in the quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory at the Allianz Arena.
Sadio Mane scored twice while Virgil van Dijk also headed home as the Reds joined Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham in the last eight.
