Super-sub Hernandez scores last-gasp winner to snatch three points for West Ham after early scare

Ex-Manchester United striker scored twice in quick succession to save the day for Manuel Pellegrini's side

JAVIER HERNANDEZ went from diver to high flier to cap a stunning West Ham fightback.

The striker redeemed himself after being booked for deliberately taking a tumble in last week’s dismal 2-0 defeat at Cardiff by popping up to spare his team massive embarrassment.

Hernandez scored twice in the last seven breathless minutes to secure all three points for West Ham with the second a minute into injury time in a dizzying seven goal thriller.

Not that West Ham should escape scot free after being 3-1 down to the worst team in the division at one point before finally waking up and putting on a show in a seven goal thriller.

It should really be Town boss Jan Siewart kicking himself though. Although his team is doomed to relegation they were great value for a two goal lead until six minutes from time.

Huddersfield’s German coach had not seen his team even score on the road since taking over on January 21 - only for three to come along in one afternoon.

Yet his team still blew it and even worse missed a glaring chance for a fourth when sub Philip Billing shot over the bar from six yards out with a minute left.

West Ham went pretty much straight up the other end and won it from a corner when Hernandez glanced home a header from a cross by Felipe Anderson.

The Hammers were booed off at half time and cheered off when the final whistle blew as reward for a remarkable fightback.

Huddersfield will take a long time to come back from the psychological blow of letting a big lead slip just as their fight for survival becomes pivotal.

West Ham went ahead through a penalty scored by skipper Mark Noble in only the fifth minute and looked set for an easy afternoon.

But they were pegged back when Juninho Bacuna with a header from a corner.

Karlan Grant scored the first of his two goals with a toe poke inside the box from a scrambled free kick and a second with a stunner from 30 yards after mugging West Ham’s defence.

Angelo Ogbonna brought West Ham back into it with a header from a corner in the 75th minute before sub Hernandez got to work.

He was brought on at  half time for Michail Antonio and equalised with a diving header in the 84th minute before nodding home a sensational winner in added time.
