Inter hold off rivals to win explosive Milan derby clash after goals from Vecino, De Vrij and Martinez
Chelsea loanee Tiemoue Bakayoko scored for his first goal for AC Milan before Mateo Musacchio doubled their tally
INTER MILAN moved clear of their arch rivals after an incredible 3-2 victory in the 223rd edition of the Milan derby.
Tiemoue Bakayoko scored his first goal for AC Milan, but strikes from Matias Vecino, Stefan De Vrij and Lautaro Martinez sealed the deal for Luciano Spalletti's men.
Inter made the perfect start when Vecino tucked the ball into the net from close range before some fans had even found their seat.
Spalletti's men wasted a handful of chances to increase their lead and the score at half-time was locked at 1-0.
And it was until after the interval that the teams proved why they have the most renowned rivalry in Italian football.
Former Manchester City target Stefan de Vrij doubled Inter's tally in the 51st minute with an impressive header.
But Milan hit back and Tiemoue Bakayoko's first goal for AC Milan could not have come at a better time.
The Chelsea loanee leaped above the crowd and sent a remarkable header past the hands of Samir Handanovic.
His goal breathed life into the tie before Lautaro Martinez made it 3-1 to Inter Milan from the penalty spot.
In true Milan derby fashion, Mateo Musacchio pulled another back for Gattuso's side to put them back into the game with 20 minutes still left on the clock.
