Cristiano Ronaldo faces Champions League ban for ‘cojones’ celebration mocking Atletico boss Diego Simeone
Portuguese forward scored a hat-trick to send the Old Lady into the Champions League quarter-finals
CRISTIANO RONALDO risks a Champions League ban after being charged by Uefa for his “cojones” goal celebration against Atletico Madrid.
The former Real Madrid star, 34, posed directly in front of the travelling Spanish fans after completing the hat-trick that knocked out Diego Simeone’s side.
Ronaldo’s offensive gesture appeared a direct answer to Simeone’s own extravagant reaction to Atletico’s second goal in the first leg.
And Uefa have now confirmed that Ronaldo has been charged with “improper conduct” for breaches two aspects of disciplinary rules.
Ronaldo is accused of “insulting conduct” which “violates the basic rules of decent conduct” and bringing football into disrepute.
The minimum sanction will be a heavy fine for the Portuguese ace.
But Uefa are under pressure to clamp down hard on such antics - meaning Ronaldo will be concerned about the outcome of Thursday’s hearing in Nyon.
HIs actions could see him forced out of at least one of the quarter-final games with Ajax.
