Mauro Icardi dropped from Inter squad after ‘something happened’ in training, confirms Spalletti
Argentine striker has not featured for the Italian giants since the beginning of February due to an ongoing feud that saw him stripped of the captaincy
MYSTERY surrounds Mauro Icardi's absence from Inter Milan's first-team after boss Luciano Spalletti claimed "something new happened" in training.
Icardi has not featured for the Italian giants since the beginning of February due to an ongoing feud that has seen him stripped of the captaincy.
Tensions are believed to be due to a contract stand-off between Inter and the Argentine striker who is managed by his wife Wanda Nara.
But ahead of his expected comeback, Spalletti said: "Considering what happened lately, including yesterday, I maintain he is not yet able to help his teammates in this game. That is why he will not be called up.
“I have to consider everything, from the previous period all the way up to yesterday. He trained with us all week, something new happened yesterday that I need to evaluate.
"In some ways, it was like having a new player, because he hadn’t been with us for such a long time.
“He trained with us and in some ways we need to get him back into our training regime behaviour."
'SOMETHING NEW HAPPENED'
The war of words has been public with Icardi calling for "respect" from the club while Spalletti has questioned his commitment.
Argentina's striker was expected to return to the line-up with Inter set to host Lazio at the San Siro on Sunday.
Lautaro Martinez's injury looked likely to see an Icardi comeback, yet this has been delayed further.
And Icardi, who has been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Chelsea, must wait even longer to have certainty over his future.
