Unai Emery's Arsenal lapfrogged fierce rivals Tottenham in the table after the 2-0 win over the Toon, with fans loving Ozil's performance, in particular.

Ozil took over the second the ball got into Newcastle's half, spraying accurate passes around with the utmost confidence.

All in all, the former Real Madrid star played 49 accurate passes in the opposition half - bettered only by Matteo Guendouzi, who played the full 90 minutes.

Ozil also broke the 10km barrier as he embarked on seven sprints - to go with his 89 per cent pass completion.

LAUGHING MATTER

But it wasn't just during the game Arsenal fans were full of praise for the midfield maestro.

In fact, Gunners supporters were left in stitches after Ozil laughed after being told they had overtaken Spurs in the standings.

Unsurprisingly, Ozil's sly dig at their North London rivals went down a treat with Gooners on social media.

One fan wrote on Twitter that Ozil was "my king" before adding that he is in "the best 10 in the league".

Another wrote "what a lad" while a further fan described him as "a Gooner, a proper Gooner".

Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette were on target last night as Arsenal reached the top three for the first time this season.

The club now has 63 points - the same number as their final tally last season under Arsene Wenger - and there are still seven games remaining.
