WOLVES are ready to pay £17million to land Benfica boss Bruno Lage if manager Nuno Espirito Santo leaves for Chelsea this summer, according to reports in Portugal.
The Premier League club's current boss was recently named alongside Frank Lampard as potential candidates to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.
Nuno's impressive performance at the Molineux this season has attracted interest from the west London club amid growing speculation over the future of Sarri.
The Portuguese manager, 45, brushed off speculation that he could join the Blues last month as he confirmed he is "happy" at Wolves.
Despite this, Portuguese newspaper Correio de Manha claims the West Midlands club will turn to Benfica boss Lage as a replacement.
The 42-year-old only took charge of the Lisbon side on a permanent basis in February but the report states Wolves would be willing to pay his £17million release clause.
Lage has won 12 and drawn just one of his 13 Primeira Liga games in charge with Benfica set to pip rivals Porto to the title.
His agent is Wolves adviser Jorge Mendes who has already overseen clients Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez drafted in the door at Molineux.
Wolves currently sit eighth in the table with a game-in-hand on seventh-placed Leicester in the battle to secure Europe League football next season.
Although Nuno admitted he is comfortable at the club, he also refused to rule out a move away in the future.
He said: "Yes [I am happy in my job], with the problems and difficulties involved, but at the same time, it is a moment of joy.
"I have a total dedication to what I must do and what we must do to keep on becoming better and growing. I'm focused."
When asked if he was aware of interest from Chelsea, he immediately replied: "No."
In regard to his long-term future, Nuno added: "I am going to be tomorrow at the game, for sure."
