Paul Pogba penalty double sees Man Utd match club record for spot-kicks scored
The Frenchman's two strikes from the spot meant United have now levelled the 2002-03 tally of 12 penalty goals
PAUL POGBA'S pair of penalties against West Ham on Saturday saw Manchester United match their club record for spot-kicks scored in a single season.
The French midfielder, 26, scored both goals as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men edged past the Hammers in a controversial clash.
Pogba's two penalties now mean United have equalled their record tally of 12 spot-kicks scored in a single season.
The Old Trafford club have only ever scored a dozen from 12 yards out once - in the 2002-03 season.
That year, Ruud van Nistelrooy scored ten of the team's penalties, with the current crop of United stars sharing the load more.
Pogba has scored eight of United's spot-kicks - with FOUR other players also finding the net.
PENAL-GLEE
Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford have all scored a single penalty each this term.
World Cup winner Pogba now has six games to close the gap on Van Nistelrooy - and Steve Bruce in 1991-92 - after their ten-penalty seasons.
Pogba's two-penalty feat against West Ham was the first time a United player has scored twice from the spot in a single game since 2012.
In February that year, Wayne Rooney scored a pair in a 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge.
MORE MAN UTD STORIES
Despite United's overall upturn in form since Solskjaer took over, Paul Scholes reckons they have no chances of winning the Premier League next term.
Scholes also suggested the club will need to spend around £200million to even challenge.
He said: "With United there’s nothing telling me, with what I’m seeing, they are going to be challenging for the league next year.
"But, give it £200million, whatever it might be, give Ole a summer transfer window - he’s going to have to improve this team massively."
