Souness calls for Sterling to be named Player of the Season after two-goal display in Man City win

GRAEME SOUNESS has called for Raheem Sterling to be named the PFA Player of the Season for 2018-19 after his two-goal display against Crystal Palace.
The England winger, 24, scored twice as Pep Guardiola and Co overtook Liverpool to reclaim the Premier League top spot at Selhurst Park with a 3-1 win.
Sterling missed a sitter in then opening exchanges, but put that miss behind him to score a stunning goal in the first half - thanks to Kevin De Bruyne's first assist of the season.
The ex-Liverpool star then grabbed his second with a poked effort in the second-half to all-but secure the victory.
After yet another sublime showing, Souness believes Sterling is more deserving of the individual accolade than the likes of Virgil van Dijk.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool's game at home to Chelsea, Souness revealed: "Sterling left this place, Anfield, at 20 and he's been sensational.
ONLY GETTING BETTER
"He should only get better. [He's scored] 17 goals now, it's not enough for him.
"He's not the most clinical and he will accept that, he should be well into his 20s playing for that team and I think he will, playing in this side with these players.
"I'd give [Player of the Year] to him right now, I think hes been fabulous."
After the game, Sterling revealed: "We always knew coming here in past has proven difficult place to come, we got two goals but knew we couldn't switch off.

"A slight one and we conceded, they score. They push you here and make things difficult. We were glad to get the third."
Sterling went on to say his side were relieved to get back to winning ways after losing to Tottenham in the Champions League midweek.
He added: "It's one game we lost but not like we've been on a bad run. That's the standard here, we had to bounce back straight away."
