NEYMAR made a poignant return for PSG as the newly-crowned French champs beat Monaco 3-1 in special shirts to raise funds for the fire-hit Notre Dame Cathedral.

The Brazil superstar, out since January with a metatarsal injury, wore the smart top with an image of the landmark fitting neatly within the club's blue and red stripes.

The 27-year-old, whose £198m transfer fee would be just a small fraction of the costs of repairing the Notre Dame, got a huge roar of approval when he came on as a sub.

Neymar had watched World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe put PSG in command with a hat-trick against their lowly visitors - while Parisians boosted the cathedral's rebuilding campaign by buying special edition shirts.

And although Aleksandr Golovin bagged a surprise consolation for Monaco late on, it had little impact on an emotional night for Paris - as they sealed their eighth Ligue 1 title but also reflected on the cathedral disaster.

Millions of pounds have already been raised towards rebuilding the 850-year-old monument in the French capital after it was ravaged by a 15-hour fire last week.

And despite Neymar was frustrated to miss PSG's Champions league ties with Manchester United, the timing of his comeback meant much to Paris as a whole.

PSG's Qatari owners have also pledged a huge injection towards repairing one of the most famous buildings in Europe.

And earlier in the week the club began selling white PSG shirts emblazoned with Notre Dame motifs.

But Mbappe soon notched an early opener as they rammed home the margin between themselves and the rest in France.

The France frontman struck again on 38 and 55 minutes before Russia's World Cup hero Golovin replied in vain.
