ARSENAL are reportedly attempting to pinch Andre Gomes from Barcelona when the transfer window reopens.

Gomes is on a season-long loan at Everton from the Catalan giants, but the Gunners have been following his performances in the Premier League with great interest.

With the Gunners bidding farewell to Aaron Ramsey in June when he heads to Juventus, a space will open up in midfield.

As things stand, it is thought that the north London outfit will have around £40million to spend in the summer, but this could rise depending on whether they qualify for the Champions League next term.

And as far as Gomes is concerned, claim the Gunners are ready to rival Everton for a deal, however no official contact has been made between Unai Emery's side and Barca.

Emery is a fan of the midfielder and was interested in signing him last year.

However, Barca may look to demand £29m for Gomes which could eat into Arsenal's transfer budget.

Arsenal's current director of football operations Raul Sanllehi played a key role in bringing the 25-year-old to the Nou Camp when he worked at Barcelona.

Gomes - who is currently serving a three-match ban - has made 28 appearances for Everton this term and his situation could spark a series of interesting events.

SunSport recently revealed Barca are lining up a summer swoop for Toffees striker Richarlison to provide support for ageing forwards Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Richarlison, 21, has struck 13 times in the league this term and he scored a superb acrobatic goal to set Everton on their way to a 4-0 win over Manchester United last weekend.
