But the 41-year-old is well respected in the country for his stint as national boss Roberto Martinez's assistant.

Monaco sacked their former player Henry in January after hovering around the Ligue 1 drop zone throughout his three-month reign.

And reports in Belgium say he is one of a dozen applicants to take over Anderlecht.

But just this week police raided the club's offices, with Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic's switch to Newcastle in 2015 one of the transfers being investigated.

Anderlecht are also in danger of failing to qualify for a European competition for the first time in 55 years.

They sacked ex-PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord manager Fred Rutten on April 16 after just 16 games.

Apart from French World Cup winner Henry, Dane Kasper Hjulmand is regarded as a prime contender for the testing role at Anderlecht.

They wanted Hjulmand, 47, after axing Belgian Hein Vanhaezebrouck in January.

But Hjulmand's Danish club Nordsjælland blocked the move.
