Leicester confirm Premier League title heroes Danny Simpson and Shinji Okazaki will leave at end of season when deals expire
The pair played 66 games between them in the incredible 5,000-1 campaign but have not had their contracts extended
LEICESTER CITY fans will be given the chance to say a fond farewell to two of their legendary 2016 title-winning stars on Sunday.
The Foxes have confirmed Danny Simpson and Shinji Okazaki - who played a combined 66 games during the famous 5,000/1 Premier League campaign – will be parting company with the club following the final game of the season against Chelsea.
The pair, who clocked up more than 260 club appearances between them, also played their part in Leicester City’s run to the quarter-finals of the Champions League the following season before Atletico Madrid knocked out the Foxes who were England’s last remaining team in Europe.
Okazaki, 33, is keen to move to Italy or Spain where the pace of the game is not as frantic as the Premier League and will give him a chance to play in one more World Cup for Japan.
The striker made 135 appearances and scored 19 goals – most memorably a stunning overhead kick against Newcastle which kept Leicester’s title run on course, just as they appeared to be flagging.
Simpson, 32, never enjoyed such a glorious goal but made 131 appearances and was Claudio Ranieri’s first-choice right-back for the majority of his remarkable time in charge.
He wrote on Twitter: "It’s a sad day to announce I am leaving @LCFC but it’s been the best 5 years of my life. I will never forget the special memories we have had together.
"Thanks to my team mates, coaches, the staff and especially the fans for everything. I will always be a fox and thank you."
But while two members of the Premier League-winning side will leave the King Power this summer, Christian Fuchs is sticking around for another season.
The Austrian left-back, 33, was widely expected to leave for the MLS this summer having played just three league games this season due to Ben Chilwell's excellent form.
But with top clubs sniffing around the England international, Fuchs has decided to put pen to paper on a one-year extension and prolong his stay in the East Midlands.
