Man City must wait to receive Premier League trophy so Brighton can do a lap of honour
Should Pep Guardiola's team successfully defend their crown they will face a wait as lap of appreciation is done
MANCHESTER CITY will not immediately get their hands on the Premier League trophy should they retain their title on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola's team need a win to guarantee a second successive crown and a fourth title in eight years if they win at Brighton.
But the Seagulls will make City wait - as they will complete a lap of honour first.
Chris Hughton's team narrowly avoided relegation this season, their survival sealed after bitter rivals Crystal Palace beat Cardiff City last weekend.
Local paper has revealed that Hughton and the players will return to the pitch once the final whistle goes to show their appreciation to Brighton fans.
Man City are a point in front of rivals Liverpool, who host Wolves, and know a win will hand them the title no matter the result at Anfield.
But Albion boss Hughton, 60, has promised his team will not roll over.
He said: "It's a nice feeling for us, already secured our status, picked up a really good result and something to play for on the last day.
"We've all been involved in last games of the season where there is nothing really at stake.
"You want to play well in front of your home support and it's a really big game to look forward to, irrespective that it has a bearing.
"Certainly I would rather be going into this game not having to get something to stay in this division."
