They have sounded out agents about recruiting a striker to bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s squad and replace Llorente.

And it means one of this season’s stars in Europe is poised to be released on a free transfer when his deal expires.

Llorente helped turn the game against Ajax in midweek when he was brought on at half-time with Spurs trailing 3-0 on aggregate.

Lucas Moura scored a hat-trick at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.

But Llorente’s presence was a key factor in getting to 3-3 and through to the Champions League final on away goals.

And in the quarter-finals his controversial VAR goal - given despite being referred to check handball - was the decisive strike in the amazing win over Manchester City.

But the ex-Juventus striker is also 35 next season.

And Spurs are looking to bring in a younger forward who can support Kane and become a long-term asset to the club.

Napoli are among the clubs who would look to snap up Llorente on a free transfer.
