BRIGHTON are still waiting on Swansea to give them permission to speak to Graham Potter - but are NOT lining up Chris Wilder as an alternative.

Albion have identified Potter as the man they want to succeed Chris Hughton who they axed on Monday.

Swans are digging their heels in over the 43-year-old, who only took over at the Liberty Stadium last summer.

The Welsh club held talks on Wednesday with the Englishman - who still has two years to go on his contract - and do not want him to leave.

Potter only took over the Swans last summer and led them to a tenth-placed finish in the Championship on a shoe-string budget.

He was spotted taking in Sunderland’s League One semi-final second-leg victory at Portsmouth on Thursday night in a prearranged scouting mission.

WILD-CARD?

Meanwhile, there had been suggestions that Sheffield United chief Wilder was being eyed up by Brighton.

The 51-year-old has done an outstanding job leading the Blades to promotion and was named LMA Manager of the Year.

But SunSport understands he is not on the Seagulls’ three-man shortlist to replace Hughton.

Albion made the ruthless decision to sack Hughton late on Sunday night following their final-day hammering at home to Manchester City.
