DANIEL JAMES’ £20m move to Manchester United has been hit by a family tragedy.
The Swansea starlet’s father has passed away suddenly at the age of 60.
Although United will still sign James, the young footballer and his family need the appropriate time and space to deal with the bereavement.
The winger, 21, was due to complete the move this week after United opened talks to sign him from the Liberty Stadium.
United have understandably told James and his family to take as much time as they need to come to terms with the unexpected loss.
Although his father had been ill, nobody in the James family expected him to pass away so suddenly.
James has previously spoken of his immense pride about his family’s support and influence in the early phase of his career.
His father watched his Wales debut on TV when he made his bow in Albania in a 1-0 defeat last November.
He then scored his first international goal in their 1-0 Euro 2020 qualifying win over Slovakia.
Ryan Giggs was able to pick James because his father was born in Aberdare and Wales can thank his late father if he fires the Red Dragons to another major tournament next summer.
The ex-Hull youth academy star has impressed for the Swans this season - chipping in with five goals and 10 assists in 38 games.
James almost joined Leeds in January on deadline day only for the deal to be dramatically cancelled, with Whites owner Andrea Radrizzani left fuming.
