The Spanish keeper is still stalling on committing his long-term future to Old Trafford with the club having failed to have qualified for the Champions League.

And United now face a decision on whether to sell him this summer or risk losing him for nothing when the final year of his contract runs out next year.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already planning a major overhaul of his squad during the close season after the sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

But until now a goalkeeper had not been part of his plans.

REPLACEMENT

Now there is the real prospect of De Gea leaving, so Italian international Donnarumma has come into the frame as a possible replacement.

United do have Sergio Romero waiting in the wings to step up to becoming regular first team number one.

But the Argentine may not be the answer for Solskjaer, who understood to be casting his eyes around Europe for an alternative.

Donnarumma, 20, has been touted as one of the best keepers in the world after breaking into the Milan and national team as a teenager.

But he could be leaving the San Siro this summer of Milan fail to qualify for the Champions League this weekend.

The Italian giants are currently fifth in Serie A with a game to go and need to beat SPAL on Saturday while hoping Inter fail to win at home to relegation strugglers Empoli.

say Donnarumma could be sold by the Milan if United came up with bid of around £55million.
