JESSE LINGARD channelled his inner Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he attempted to recreate his manager's iconic Champions League final goal against Bayern Munich.

It's 20 years since the Norwegian poked home from close range in the 93rd minute against the Bundesliga side to claim a historic Treble for the Red Devils.

The baby-faced assassin got on the end of a Teddy Sheringham flick-on to steer his effort past Oliver Kahn as United capped one of the great comebacks in modern history.

And Lingard tried to recreate his gaffer's volley, with Marcus Rashford taking up the role of Sheringham as he looked to guide his header to Lingard at the back post.

After the fourth time of asking, Lingard steered his volley home - albeit nothing like the original - before racing to the byline to slide on his knees.

Unfortunately for the England international, he was left with a nasty graze on his knee, as he joked he is going to see the physio to "get a plaster".

Roy Keane would be turning in his grave if he was dead

Fans were not impressed with their efforts as they criticised the pair for struggling to score a simple tap-in.

One tweeted: "How embarrassing.... this shows their level they’ve got kids in Bayern shirts just stood there as mannequins and these two clowns can’t even manage to score from 6 yards out."

Another said: "Why would you get these clowns to recreate it?

While one quipped: "Roy Keane would be turning in his grave if he was dead."

One added: "Actually feel sorry for United fans knowing that Lingard will probs spend his career at United."

Another commented: "If these two where half as good as they think they are they'd be twice the players they actually are."

Lingard was recently slammed by United supporters for using the Manchester bombing tribute to promote his own brand.
