For a second season running Valverde’s side gave away a three goal first leg lead in the Champions League only to be knocked out in the return tie.

And the 2-1 Copa del Rey final defeat to Valencia looks to be the final straw with ex-Everton boss Martinez is among the favourites to land the job.

With the current Belgian manager said to be interested in taking over at the Nou Camp, he could turn to ex-Barca striker Henry as his assistant.

The pair had a successful stint in charge with Belgium, but Henry left his coaching role to join former club Monaco as manager.

It turned out to be a torrid spell in Monaco for the Arsenal legend, however, being sacked after just three months with a record of four wins, five draws, and 11 defeats, from 20 games.

claim however, that Henry and Martinez could team up together should the Spanish coach replace Valverde.

Reports today claim Barca have contacted Belgium chief Martinez, 45, about replacing Valverde.

Further reports suggest Arsenal boss Emery, 47, is part of a four-man shortlist to take over.

Barcelona appointed Valverde in 2017 following four years in charge of Athletic Bilbao.

He won La Liga twice, the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup during his tenure but failed to clinch the Champions League.
