PRIDE IN LIONS

Watch England fans raise £270 for local busker during singalong to Valerie

ENGLAND fans showed their generosity in Porto by raising around £270 for a local busker with a brilliant rendition of Valerie.

The Three Lions supporters were in terrific mood in the sunshine as they gathered in the square ahead of their Nations League clash with Switzerland.

After some supporter trouble on the first night, a group of fans showed not all those who travel to follow the nation are troublemakers as they created a fabulous atmosphere in Portugal.

And they did their country proud as a busker entertained the crowd with the hit song recorded by The Zutons and Amy Winehouse.

They all joined in with the lyrics but it was what England fans did next that made it so special.

The Times journalist Henry Winter tweeted: “Talking to four #cpfc #eng Travel Club fans in Guimaraes who’ve been travelling all over, Braga, vineyards, and were in Porto for the “Valerie” busker.

“England fans took the hat round and raised €300 (£267) for the busker.”

With the video doing the rounds online, one commented: “This is brilliant from Eng fans.”

Another added: “Saw something similar last night, England fans joining in with a street performer singing Hallelujah. Lots of locals watching and laughing.”

Their semi-final defeat hasn’t dampened the spirits with thousands remaining to cheer on Gareth Southgate’s men.

And they were rewarded for their efforts as England defeated Switzerland on penalties thanks to Jordan Pickford’s heroics.
