WEST HAM have had a £29million bid accepted for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez, it has been reported.
The 22-year-old Uruguayan has been on the Hammers' radar for some time and fans will be encouraged by the news.
According to , the Spanish club accepted West Ham's bid as well as an equivalent one from La Liga rivals Valencia.
Despite reported interest from Tottenham, Liverpool and Barcelona, the east-Londoners have acted quickly in a bid to secure their long-term target.
The Irons have been in the market for a striker since the Marko Arnautovic saga that dogged the club in January.
After a mega-offer from China turned the Austrian's head, he was dropped from the team, his form dipped upon his return and he appeared to tell a fan to 'shut the f*** up' after being subbed.
But Hammers's supporters will be thrilled at this latest news - just a day after they confirmed the £24million signing of exciting Spanish international Pablo Fornals from Villareal.
The east-Londoners held extensive Gomez talks in January and Manuel Pellegrini - along with director of football Mario Husillos - have kept close tabs on the forward since.
The all-action striker notched 13 goals and five assists from 36 appearances last season as Celta Vigo finished 17th in La Liga and narrowly avoided relegation.
If West Ham get the deal over the line, Gomez will become their fourth signing of the summer after goalkeepers David Martin and Roberto Gago were also brought in to replace Adrian.
LATEST FOOTBALL NEWS
Having bought Husillos in last summer, the Hammers' approach to transfers seems to have changed.
Control over signings appears to have shifted from co-owner David Sullivan's hands into those of Pellegrini and the Argentinian director of football.
The Irons have had an encouraging transfer window so far but may also have to fend of interest in their current crop of stars - after Manchester United were reported to be interested in a £45m plus player deal for Issa Diop.
