Arsenal flop Carl Jenkinson wanted by Celtic in permanent transfer as full-back targets regular first-team football
ARSENAL defender Carl Jenkinson is reportedly a target for Celtic.
Hoops boss Neil Lennon is searching for a new right-back following the exits of Mikael Lustig, Jeremy Toljan and Cristian Gamboa.
Lustig has yet to sign a new deal and is now a free agent, with a return to Sweden seemingly on the cards.
Jenkinson, 27, played just eight times for the Gunners last season but is keen to play more first-team football.
He does not appear to be in Unai Emery's plans, despite a shocking lack of defensive options at the Emirates.
Lennon had identified George Baldock as one of his top targets for the position, but Sheffield United are reluctant to sell the defender.
It's said that Baldock is keen to speak to Parkhead chiefs, despite the Blades' Premier League promotion.
But Chris Wilder wants to keep the 26-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract, and is prepared to risk losing him for nothing next summer.
That's forced Lennon to assess a list of alternative options and the claims Sunderland's Adam Matthews is a potential option.
The Welshman, 27, is a free agent after leaving the League One side.
Meanwhile Sheffield Wednesday are poised to hijack Celtic's move for David Turnbull.
