MATTHIJS DE LIGT has been snapped on holiday studying a horror story that Manchester United fans would perhaps rather hope he had never read.

A top priority for the Old Trafford club's transfer plans, the Ajax defender was seen pouring over Memphis Depay's tale of woe.

'Heart Of A Lion' is the winger's autobiography in which he details the terrible 18 months he spent in England as his career went backwards.

He failed to impress under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, scoring just two league goals, after costing £25million and was quietly moved on to Lyon .

United may not enjoy de Ligt hearing how badly Depay's stint when given their interest in his signature, rivalling Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

The teenager has already expressed his intent to leave Ajax this summer and was on holiday in Miami while his future gets decided.

Accompanying de Ligt was girlfriend Annekee Molenaar.

The model was recently spotted house hunting in Paris, according to reports, and often partakes in photo shoots with Mikkey Kiemeney, the partner of Dutch star Frenkie de Jong.

In the book, Depay wrote: "I blamed everybody: [Louis] van Gaal, [Jose] Mourinho, I felt like the whole world was against me.

"But I didn’t blame myself. That’s not how it works in life.

"It was very frustrating I didn’t reach my usual level.

"I had to follow the tactical orders of van Gaal, otherwise I would certainly lose my spot in the team. Van Gaal doesn’t like players who don’t follow up on his comments.

"Meanwhile, I knew I couldn’t get the best out of my play this way: staying on the left side of the field, running back and forth.

"I didn’t understand: you buy me because of my specific qualities you saw at PSV and the Dutch national team. After that you put me in a role where I can’t play that way anymore.

"For me that was confusing."
