FRANK LAMPARD wants Callum Hudson-Odoi to stay at Chelsea — so he can turn him into a “world-class” star.
Bayern Munich are keen to snap up the England winger, 18, who is out of contract next year.
But new boss Lampard said: “I want him to stay. I want to improve him as a player.
"He can show at Chelsea, the club he came through the academy at, that he is a world-class player. I truly believe that.
“I am not going to say, ‘This is all going to be your way’. But knowing his talent, he can be central to this team and he can be central to an England team.
“I remember being 17, 18 or 19 and I wasn’t as good as Callum at that age.
“When someone has the amount of raw talent that Callum has, if he drives and pushes, then the world is absolutely open for him.”
He can show at Chelsea that he is a world-class player.
Lampard on Hudson-Odoi
Hudson-Odoi saw a transfer request rejected in January after growing frustrated under former manager Maurizio Sarri.
He watched team-mate Jadon Sancho flourish at Borussia Dortmund while his own first-team opportunities were limited.
If the Blues want him to stay, they will need to offer more than the £100,000-a-week deal Ruben Loftus-Cheek signed yesterday.
German giants Bayern are prepared to top that figure to steal him away from Stamford Bridge.
But the Blues are flush with cash to fund bumper new contracts.
Latest Chelsea news
The club yesterday confirmed the sale of Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid for £58million.
That comes on top of the £88m Real paid for Eden Hazard, in a deal which could rise to £150m.
Chelsea’s transfer ban means they cannot spend the proceeds on signings — but can splash the cash giving new deals to key players.
