GABRIEL JESUS was left raging and crying floods of tears after being sent off in the Copa America final.

The striker had put hosts Brazil in front against Peru on home soil at the end of the first-half - just two minutes after Peru had equalised from the spot.

But Jesus' night turned sour with 15 minutes remaining after he was shown a second yellow card for an innocuous looking challenge from a throw-in.

Jesus went up slightly late with the ball in the air and caught a Peruvian defender Carlos Zambrano.

Chilean referee Roberto Tobar showed no hesitation in flashing a second yellow - leaving the 22-year-old furious and then upset.

As Jesus walked down the tunnel, cameras also picked up Jesus kicking bottles, landing a huge punch on the VAR stand and then almost pushing it over.

Jesus was raging but crying at the same time, waving his arms as the coach tried to console him.

The striker had earlier set hosts Brazil well on their way to winning the Copa America for the first time since 2007.

Gremio forward Everton had opened the scoring after only six minutes in what was expected to be an easy night for Brazil.

But Peru, chasing their first title in 44 years, scored a penalty just before half-time, Paolo Guerrero tucking home after Thiago Silva's handball.

Although Peru were dreaming, it didn't last long as it was Jesus who scored within two minutes.

The Man City star capped off a lovely move to finish just inside the box.
