FENERBAHCE want to sign Mesut Ozil from Arsenal on loan in what has been described as “possibly the biggest transfer” in Turkish football history.

The much-maligned German winger made just 20 starts under Unai Emery last season despite signing a bumper new three-and-a-half year contract worth £350k-a-week last year.

However, the Gunners boss is desperately trying to raise funds and cut the wage bill after being handed a transfer budget of just £45m.

And according to , that has sparked Fenerbahce’s interest as they look into pulling off the ambitious swoop for the 30-year-old.

But he backed up Sun Sport's story from a month ago they are unable to buy the ex-Real Madrid attacker outright - however they are hoping Arsenal are willing to still continue paying some of his huge financial package.

OZIL AND OUT?

Solhekol said on : “Fenerbahce are looking into the possibility of signing Mesut Ozil from Arsenal.

“I don't think Fenerbahce could really afford to buy him outright so what they're looking for is a loan deal whereby Arsenal would continue to pay a percentage of his wages.

“Ozil earns £350,000-a-week but I don't think there's any way Fenerbahce could afford that, but if there was a way they could come to some sort of agreement with Arsenal where they would carry on paying some of those wages then it could happen.”

Although he added negotiations between Fenerbahce and Arsenal are yet to take place.

Solhekol said: “I think we're still at the stage where talks have not taken place between the two clubs but this is something intermediaries are working on.

“If this happens it would possibly be the biggest transfer in the history of Turkish football.”

COST-CUTTING

Any potential Ozil exit could take the total amount shaved off the Arsenal wage bill this summer to around £700k a week.

Petr Cech, 37, who pocketed £100,000-per-week, hung up his gloves at the end of the season before returning to Chelsea.

Denis Suarez failed to justify his £55,000-per-week wages in North London and has returned to Barcelona.

In April it was reported that the 25-year-old had cost Arsenal £840,000 in wages but failed to have a shot or create a chance in the league.

Danny Welbeck, 28, has ended his five year spell in North London when his contract expired at the end of the season.

The English striker, who scored five goals last term, was earning £70,000-a-week with the Gunners.

Napoli-bound David Ospina, 30, was on £40,000-per-week - which was £5,000 more than Stephan Lichtensteiner.

In total, the six players leaving has reduced their payroll by a whopping £410,000-per-week.

Arsenal's annual wage bill sits just above £200m - which is still less than Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United.
