MARCO ASENSIO could be out for the season after rupturing his cruciate knee ligament against Arsenal.
The Real Madrid star was carried off the pitch in tears and on a stretcher during last night's friendly.
And Real have now confirmed he has ruptured the anterior cruciate in his left knee and suffered severe damage to the meniscus,
Now the Spanish club say surgery is imminent for the player amid fears he will be sidelined for the entire season,
Just three minutes after the Spaniard had scored to get his side back on level terms in the US, he was being taken off the pitch.
The 23-year-old appeared to get his foot caught in the turf at FedEx Field after an innocuous looking challenge with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
As he was on the floor, Asensio could be seen looking distraught.
Tears filled his eyes and he covered his face with his shirt as Real Madrid's medical staff tended to him.
Team-mate Alvaro Odriozola could be seen with a concerned look on his face as he spoke to the forward.
As Asensio was carried off the pitch, he was still holding his hands to his eyes with a clear grimace on his face.
And his horror injury could also prove to be a huge blow to Arsenal, whose loan move for Dani Ceballos is now in doubt.
Down 2-0 at half-time, Zinedine Zidane brought on Asensio - and Gareth Bale - who changed the game.
Bale, who has been heavily linked with an exit from the Spanish capital, poked home to level the scoring just ten minutes after his introduction.
