Chelsea fans slam ‘terrible’ news that Willian’s set to sign new two-year deal despite No10 shirt gaffe
WILLIAN is reportedly set to pen a two-year contract extension at Chelsea - and their fans are not happy.
The Brazilian is entering his final year at Stamford Bridge but is yet to return to the squad for pre-season.
The Times report Willian is close to agreeing a two-year extension as he prepares to wok under under new boss and former team-mate Frank Lampard.
Chelsea fans slammed the decision on Twitter, claiming Willian does not "deserve" a new deal.
One said: "He absolutely doesn’t deserve a 2 year deal. If Chelsea board is clever enough, they should make it a 1 year +1 year option to extend."
Another said: "Kill me."
However, other supporters backed the news, with the possibility of the forward leaving on a free transfer next summer eliminated.
One said: "This makes sense in a transfer ban season and still allows us to sell him after this season is over."
Another said: "Good move I reckon, we need him to be around this season and we can sell him next season and still get money for him because he has a year left on his contract.
"Otherwise he’d walk for free next summer, we may as well protect the asset we have."
It comes after Ruben Loftus-Cheek agreed a new five-year deal, while Jake Clarke-Salter also extended his contract until 2022, though the defender, 21, has moved to Birmingham City on loan.
Blues starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi is also close to committing his long-term future to Stamford Bridge.
It is understood the 18-year-old will sign a new five-year deal and fend off interest from Bayern Munich - who have tabled four bids for the English star.
Chelsea have also had to snub interest from Barcelona for Willian.
Tying down both wingers will go some way to assuring the void left by Eden Hazard’s transfer to Real Madrid can be filled.
With the Blues' two-window transfer embargo prohibiting any new signings Lampard will turn to what he has inherited in order to decide the Belgian’s replacement.
American Christian Pulisic, signed for £58million in January from Borussia Dortmund, has linked up with his team team-mates this summer.
Chelsea news
He, along with Willian and Hudson-Odoi, are in the running to take over the No10 jersey now vacated.
Despite Willian’s claims to Brazilian media he was offered the number, Lampard denied any decision had been made.
The Chelsea manager said: “There’s no confirmation on that decision. It will be taken in due course.”
