Man Utd’s youth shining in pre-season with academy players either scoring or assisting EVERY goal

MANCHESTER UNITED'S youth stars have been shining this pre-season - with academy players either scoring or assisting EVERY goal so far.

Angel Gomes, 18, scored a stunning solo goal and Andreas Pereira laid on the assist for Anthony Martial in today's 2-1 win over Tottenham - keeping up the remarkable streak.

It's no wonder boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been waxing lyrical about his youngsters.

In their previous game, Mason Greenwood curled home a divine winner as Man Utd edged past Inter Milan 1-0.

He also opened the scoring in the 4-0 drubbing of Leeds, with Rashford scoring the second, Pereira assisting the third and Tahith Chong assisting for the fourth.

In their first game of pre-season - a 2-0 win over Perth Glory - Rashford scored first before James Garner added the second.

It means an academy product player has been involved in every goal and with just two more games to go - against Kristiansund and AC Milan - they could keep it going through the whole summer.

GREEN LIGHT

It bodes well ahead of what could be a huge season for United under Solskjaer - starting with a massive Premier League curtain-raiser against Chelsea.

And one youngster who could certainly be in with a shout of starting that game is Greenwood.

The 17-year-old wonderkid has impressed Solskjaer so far during their pre-season tour.

He only signed his first professional contract last October, but has shown promise ever since.

The impressive forward is now in line for a bumper new contract ahead of his 18th birthday in October as he currently earns just £800 per week.

An Old Trafford source said: “He isn’t on an awful lot but does get bonuses on top for each appearance.

“Ole wants him to focus on his football at the moment and he is doing a terrific job of that.”

Greenwood has been at United since the age of six and has progressed up through their academy ranks.

He now looks to be one of the most exciting young talents to come out of Old Trafford in a generation.
