Manchester United are hotly tipped to complete a move for the goalscoring midfielder, who netted 33 times in all competitions last season.

The impressive haul has not gone unnoticed around Europe and despite several reports claiming he has already flown to England for a medical over the weekend — Fernandes did play.

Fans watched the game wondering if Fernandes would supply any signs of his likely exit from the Portuguese capital.

And there were signs of tears in his eyes as the game ended and he got up off bench before donning a grey training sweater and wiping his face with the sleeve.

United have been strongly linked with a tilt for Bruno, but there has not been a few agreed with the club.

Despite scoring first, Sporting lost 2-1 at home to Valencia at the Jose Alvalade.

Bas Dost scored for the home side before Geoffrey Kondogbia and Kevin Gameiro turned it around for the Spaniards.

United have also been strongly linked with moves for £81m-rated Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio in recent days — but that appears contingent on Paul Pogba leaving for Real Madrid.

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also wants an upgrade at centre-back, with £80m Harry Maguire top of their list — even if the Leicester man is proving hard to land.

United face Norwegian side Kristiansund in Olso Inn Tuesday before a friendly against AC Milan on Saturday.

The Red Devils then welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford in their Premier League opener on August 11.
