Inter Milan ‘tell Mauro Icardi he will not play for TWO YEARS if he refuses transfer and insists on running down deal’
INTER Milan have told Mauro Icardi he will not play for TWO YEARS if he refuses a transfer and insists on running down his deal, according to reports.
The Argentine striker has had a tumultuous last 12 months at the San Siro, after a club-vs-player saga involving his wife and agent Wanda Nara.
Inter were hopeful of selling the 26-year-old this summer, but Icardi appears to have decided to stay at the club before leaving on a free in 2021.
In response, the Nerazzurri are set to dig their heels in and completely freeze their former captain out of their first-team plans for the remaining two years of his contract, according to .
The Italian daily claims that Icardi will still be allowed to train with his teammates during his exile but without the hope of ever playing, even in a case of emergency.
And Inter are only expected to include the striker in the Serie A and Champions League squads in a bid to avoid legal pitfalls.
A transfer away from the club already seems off the cards following the expiration of Icardi's self-imposed July deadline to find a new club.
He was isolated from Inter's squad for two months last season and stripped of the captain's armband after a row over his contract.
Despite this, Icardi still bagged 11 Serie A goals last season as Inter went on to secure Champions League football with a fourth-place finish.
His wife Wanda hasn't eased tensions between the two after she went on TV and declared that she'd like the club to sign new midfielders who could give her husband "decent service."
The bombshell model also fell out with Mauro's sister and the pair caused a storm by sharing topless pictures together on Instagram.
Icardi is thought to be a target for Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli but he has been causing bosses major frustration by stalling on a move.
