DEVASTATED Stoke fans have been left wondering what could have been after Bojan's departure marked the end of an era at the club.

The club announced that they came to a mutual agreement with the Spaniard to terminate his contract after failing to impress boss Nathan Jones.

Bojan, 28, was a fan favourite in the Potteries after signing from Barcelona in 2014.

Alongside a forward line of Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic, the trio produced some of Stoke's most memorable football in the Premier League that saw wins over Manchester City, Chelsea and United.

But he lost his place in the first-team under Mark Hughes and struggled to win it back following the appointments of Paul Lambert, Gary Rowett and Jones.

A statement posted by Bojan read: "I've had the privilege of playing for the club in the Premier League and enjoying some memorable wins, as well as scoring against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal... which are, without doubt, some of the best moments of my career.

"However, the most important thing for me is to thank the fans for their constant support during my time at the club.

"The Potters fans were always there, in both the good and the bad times, to offer me their affection, something which I really value that I'll never forget."

One fan commented: "Seen Stoke play some of the best football I've ever seen with you in that false 9 role. You will always be remembered for that successful period."

Another added: "One of the best, most talented players I’ve ever had the privilege of watching at Stoke.

"Such a shame we couldn’t see more of you, but glad we got to see you at all. Best of luck."

Despite the wish of the majority of Stoke fans, he was limited to just eight league starts last season.

Jones had informed him that he wasn't part of his plans for the upcoming campaign and instead trained alone in his native Spain.

Bojan has been linked with a move to the MLS with Montreal.
