Chelsea defender David Luiz shock name on Everton transfer wishlist as defender hunt steps up
DAVID LUIZ is the shock name on Everton’s hitlist for a centre-back.
The Chelsea defender has been discussed by the clubs during talks over Fikayo Tomori heading to Goodison Park on a season-long loan.
Marco Silva is prioritising a centre-back before tomorrow’s transfer deadline as Kurt Zouma has returned to Stamford Bridge after spending last season on Merseyside.
Luiz, 32, recently signed a new two-year deal and Chelsea’s transfer ban means Frank Lampard is reluctant to lose his senior players.
But Everton’s interest underlines their ambition in the market this window.
They have lodged a big-money bid for Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha and have also seen a £30million offer rejected for Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.
In defence they have also looked at a deal for Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake, who is valued at £75million by his club.
Luiz as a target goes against the policy of director of football Marcel Brands going to players in their mid-20s but it is thought the club could consider an older player for the right deal.
The Brazilian is one of the three players who were team-mates with new boss Lamps during his playing career, along with Willian and Cesar Azpilicueta.

He was a key player Frank Lampard at Pride Park but is further down the pecking order now Zouma looks set to stay at Chelsea.
