Now he could be part of a new-look backline for Unai Emery alongside David Luiz for Sunday's Prem opener at Newcastle.

The Brazilian, 32, is on the brink of a shock £8m move from Chelsea.

On the move for Tierney, boss Unai Emery said: “We’re delighted Kieran is joining us.

"He’s a very talented player who will continue to improve. He increases our options defensively and I look forward to him joining our group.”

Tierney revealed he was having a kickabout at the park with his friends when he got the call about his move for Arsenal.

The Scot revealed: "I got told at 7pm last night that I had to be at the airport in an hour, so I had to go quickly.

"I was actually down the park with my friends training.

TIME FOR TIERNEY

"They play with their local team so I was down watching them and I got a phone call that I needed to go.

"I got to the airport and the flight was delayed two-and-a-half hours, with another hour's drive for a hotel... I probably got zero sleep."

The Gunners had been battling for Tierney's signature all summer.

But the Bhoys had turned down Arsenal's £20m offer and were determined to get top dollar.

However the Londoners finally upped their price and agreed a fee for the Scotland international yesterday.

Celtic will also get a bumper sell-on clause with the astounding transfer package shattering the previous the Scottish record sale of nearly £20m for Moussa Dembele to Lyon a year ago.

Emery will be no doubt pleased with his business this summer after the arrival of six new players.

The club smashed their transfer record to sign Lille winger Nicolas Pepe for £72m this summer.
