Reds boss Jurgen Klopp stressed against making a hasty diagnosis with Alisson due for scans on the injury.
However the 26-year-old won't feature in Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup clash with Chelsea.
Speaking after the goalkeeper hit the deck as he took a goal kick, Klopp said: "He felt as if something hit him from the back.
"He will not be ready for Wednesday.

"A tear? Maybe, but you cannot say that without the scan. We will find a solution and move on."
