WAYNE ROONEY missed out on a reunion with former Manchester United pal Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to illness last night.
The former England captain was due to play his first game for DC United since last week’s shock news he was joining Championship side Derby County in January.
But the veteran striker, 33, was forced out of the action with an upper respiratory ailment.
However, his team-mates were not caught cold as they secured a 2-1 victory over Ibrahimovic’s LA Galaxy.
Lucas Rodríguez and Paul Arriola scored the goals for DC.
Rodríguez side-footed a rebound into the net to seal the points with just over fifteen minutes left.
Ulises Segura had been denied with a long-ranger, but goalkeeper David Bingham could only push the ball into the path of the attacker.
The stopper recovered well to deny Rodrgiuez’s first effort, but he was not to be denied a second time.
Arriola had given the hosts the lead with 28 minutes on the clock before Fabio Alvarez equalised moments after half time on a night when Zlatan failed to deliver.
The result brings to an end DC United’s three-game winless run as they recorded just a second victory in eight matches.
