David Luiz gives Arsenal fans glimpse into future with heart-stopping pass in front of goal
ARSENAL'S deadline day signing David Luiz hit a high-risk pass on his Gunners debut which left the Emirates faithful gasping with shock.
Former Chelsea centre-back Luiz, who made the controversial £8million switch across London earlier this month, started against Burnley.
And it took just four minutes for the unpredictable Brazilian to produce a heart-stopping moment for Arsenal fans.
Holding the ball inside his own penalty area, while under pressure from Burnley forwards, Luiz fizzed a pass across his own goal line to centre-back partner Sokratis.
There was an audible sigh of relief that rose from the North London ground after the dangerous move.
And fans on social media showed their nerves.
One fan wrote: "I remember Sunday league managers screaming if you dared to play a square pass at the back."
Another said: "Always got an error in him."
But there was a defence of Luiz, with one supporter saying: "If that was a Man City defender everyone would say look how good they can pass out from the back."
Former PSG defender Luiz has long been known for a confident approach to the game.
In 2012, with Luiz in his first stint at Stamford Bridge, Gary Neville likened his performance against Liverpool to "being controlled by a 10-year-old on a PlayStation".
The 32-year-old has added a much-needed level of confidence to Emery's defence.
He brought the ball out from the back and showed his passing ability by regularly looking to find Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

But Luiz faced blame from some supporters for Burnley's equaliser after losing Ashley Barnes in the penalty area.
Team-mate Alexandre Lacazette gave the Gunners an early lead but Barnes equalised for Sean Dyche's side two minutes before half-time.
Aubameyang struck a long-range effort midway through the second-half to give Arsenal the lead.
