James Milner shows off gruesome eye gash which forced Liverpool star to have stitches and wear headband during Southampton clash
JAMES MILNER has revealed the painful-looking eye injury he suffered during Liverpool’s clash with Southampton.
The 33-year-old clashed heads with James Ward-Prowse as the two midfielders battled for an aerial ball.
Milner came off worst and he had to have his head wrapped up in bandages for the rest of the 2-1 win for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
And Milner revealed how deep the cut above his right eye was when he posted a selfie to his 2.1 million Instagram followers.
Milner wrote: “Doc had me in stitches yesterday… twice!”
Teetotal Milner, who has showed his humorous side on social media, joked with hashtags as well, adding: “Is this what a hangover feels like?”
Milner’s fans enjoyed the post, wishing him a speedy recovery.
One wrote: “A Yorkshire tea and a Ribena should do it lad.”
Another said: “But still played like a warrior.”
And another wrote: “My man still got an assist with stitches. Class act Millie.”
Sadio Mane put the visitors to the south coast ahead in injury time of the first-half with his first goal against his former club.
And Roberto Firmino wrapped up the points for Klopp’s side midway through the second-half.
Former Liverpool forward Danny Ings did give the Reds a scare with a goal in the 83rd minute but the European champions hung on for the points.
