Pogba in blast at ‘ignorant racist insults’ after Man Utd team-mate Rashford suffers abuse for penalty miss against Man Utd
PAUL POGBA has delivered a defiant message to the racist trolls who have targeted himself and other players - by insisting their abuse will only make him stronger.
Manchester United star Pogba was singled out for vile taunts and death threats on social media last week having missed a penalty at Wolves.
It came after Tammy Abraham had been the victim of racist abuse after missing his own spot-kick in the Uefa Super Cup clash with Liverpool.
And only yesterday Pogba's United team-mate Marcus Rashford became the latest black footballer to be victimised on Twitter.
But Pogba, making his first public statement since he was abuse, has posted a passionate statement of defiance to those who target him.
He publish a photo of himself cradling his eight-month-old son in front of prints of his father, Fassou Antoine, and Martin Luther King.
Accompanying the picture he wrote: "My ancestors and my parents suffered for my generation to be free today, to work, to take the bus, to play football.
"Racist insults are ignorance and can only make me stronger and motivate me to fight for the next generation."
The defiant message drew huge support online, with the tweet being retweeted 15,000 times and and receiving 58,ooo likes within an hour.
Pogba, 26, is now one of a growing number of black footballers receiving racists abuse on social media.
He has drawn the full support of United, who last week issued a strong statement calling on Twitter to do more to combat the issue.
Team-mates Harry Maguire and Rashford also tweeted demanding the social media company take more responsibility - only for the striker to suffer himself on Saturday after the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Twitter say they are monitoring the accounts of the top 50 black footballers, although that did not prevent Rashford being targeted yesterday.
They are due to sit down with United soon where the club expected them to detail exactly what they plan to do about the problem.
And Chelsea have also followed suit, demanding showdown talks with the company in the wake of Abraham's treatment.
