Man City’s £1.15bn squad valued at nearly double Man Utd’s – and is £180m more than nearest rivals Liverpool
MANCHESTER CITY'S mega spending has left them with a squad valued at nearly DOUBLE that of neighbours Manchester United.
With a market value of £644.6million, the Red Devils' playing staff pales in comparison to champions City and their £1.15BILLION team.
According to data from Transfermarkt, Pep Guardiola's big spenders are worth over £180m more than their nearest rivals.
They are unsurprisingly Liverpool, coming in at £959.1m, with Tottenham next on the podium at £881.5m.
Despite Spurs forking out only the eighth-highest sum in transfer fees across the league in the past five years, their canny investments are now worth a significant amount.
Chelsea (£697.9m) and Arsenal (£570.3m) are either side of United as the expected top-six stand ahead of the chasing pack.
Everton are best of the rest (£457.2m) before Leicester (£345.8m) and West Ham (£299m).
NOISY NEIGHBOURS
It is a sign of the different policies enacted by City and United that there is such disparity in their squad value despite relatively similar spending records of late.
Transfermarkt numbers have the Citizens splashing £100m more than their rivals since the 2014/15 season began, £979.9m to £878.9m.
They are, in fact, the highest valued side in the world with Real Madrid and Barcelona the only others topping the £1bn mark.
Expensive signings such as Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Nemanja Matic are not valued so highly in the latter years of their career while flops like Fred have also receded.

On the other hand, City can even boast underpaying on Rodri, already rated at £72m, and Raheem Sterling, who is seen as a £126m player now.
United changed tack this summer to reduce the gap between Old Trafford and Eastlands, signing youngsters Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James ahead of a mega outlay on Harry Maguire.
However their current values are yet to reach their fees following a mediocre start to the season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team.
