Haaland, 19, joined some illustrious company with his efforts, with only Wayne Rooney and Raul managing a treble in the competition at a younger age.

He was born in Leeds shortly before his dad moved to Manchester City and grew up supporting the club.

And in 2017, he told Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten: "The dream is to win the Premier League with Leeds.

"In addition, the goal is to become a better player than my dad was. I hope to get more caps than he did."

Haaland's treble in a 6-2 win over Genk was his fourth of the season and also saw the Norway international hit 17 goals in just nine games this campaign.

The ace already had three hat-tricks to his name and became the first player to hit three on his Champions League debut since Wayne Rooney in 2004.

Hwang Hee-Chan, Dominik Szoboszlai and Andreas Ulmer also scored for Salzburg - who go to Anfield in the next round of fixtures.

The Reds began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat at Napoli after a Dries Mertens' penalty and a Virgil Van Dijk blunder handed ex-spurs striker Fernando Llorente his first goal for the Italians.

Jurgen Klopp criticised the officials after the game, blasting: "For me it's clear and obvious, no penalty.

"Callejon jumps before he has any contact. But we cannot change that so we have to be critical with ourselves.

"We did well in a lot of moments, we played a lot of good football but we didn't finish off."
