Messi, two years younger at just 32, also boasts five crowns as the decade-long debate over which superstar forward is better rages on.

But Ronaldo believes he can finally break away from his frenemy - if he can win a further three Ballons d'Or.

CR7, when asked what he would like to achieve before retirement by Piers Morgan in their ITV interview, said: "The most golden balls in the history of football.

"I will love it and I think I deserve it.

"Messi is a fantastic guy and a fantastic player, but I think after I have six, or seven, or eight then I’ll be more above him.

I'M NO1

"I cannot control what the people like, some people like this player or that player.

"For me, [I am] the No1 in history. I know I’m one of the greatest ever in the history of football."

Ronaldo went on to claim Messi pushes him to become a better player, saying: "My relationship with him, we’re not 'home' friends but we've shared the stage for 15 years.

"I have a good relationship, and I know that he pushes me to be a better player and I push him as well."

In a wide-ranging interview, Ronaldo broke down in tears as he revealed his alcoholic dad never got to see him turn into arguably the best player in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo tells Piers Morgan he only completely trusts four people in the whole world

The Juve star said: “I really don’t know my father 100 per cent. He was a drunk person. I never spoke with him, like a normal conversation. It was hard.

"To be the No1 and he don’t see nothing, and he don’t see to receive awards, to see what I became.”

Ronaldo also went on to reveal he only trusts FOUR people in the world after his rape allegation ordeal.

The ex-Real Madrid ace said: "I’m not going to say names, because I don’t think it is fair.

"But I will say four persons, 100 per cent trust, four persons.

"I have very close friends, family, but who I trust 100 per cent, it's maybe four persons. Life is like that."

Meanwhile, Ronaldo lifted the lid on his move to Manchester United - saying he was "one step" away from joining Arsenal.

When asked if he almost signed for Arsenal, Ronaldo admitted: "It's true. Very close. One step, incredible. Seriously.
