FRANK LAMPARD revealed midfield pair N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount are in contention to feature against Liverpool.

The Blues host the league leaders on Sunday, but were dealt a blow on Tuesday after Mount suffered an ankle injury against Valencia and had to be brought off after 15 minutes.

But SunSport revealed yesterday that a scan proved there was no ligament damage, giving the Blues hope of a return at Stamford Bridge.

And Lampard confirmed the 20-year-old - who has netted three goals this season - could pass a late fitness test but they “won’t take any risks” in their selection.

He said: “He’s got a chance. We all saw the image of the tackle and it made it look really bad, but hopefully it’s not so bad.

“We’re trying to get him moving today and it’s one I’m going to have to call just before the game with another 24 hours in the bank.

“We’re trying and the good thing with Mason is his attitude. He’ll give everything to go out there and play for this club, particularly in a game of this size. We’ll try to get him there.

“There’s a lot of swelling and it didn’t look the best.

“But I think with some injuries with the ankle – from my experience as well – if there’s proper damage there’s not much you can do but sometimes if they’re swollen and you strap it up – old school – and get out there, it can be done.

“We won’t take any risks with him. There’s a bigger picture. But we’ll do our best.”

Lampard has also been without Kante since starting against Leicester last month after a sprained ankle sidelined the Frenchman.

However, the 28-year-old returned to training, and will be taken into “consideration” ahead of the Liverpool clash.

Lampard added: "It is a boost, we know the importance of him, the question is how fit he is.

"He has played a couple of games, but he missed pre-season. Istanbul was miraculous. Now we have to manage him.

"I am delighted to work with him and if he can bring a positive for us then I will take it into consideration."
