Fantasy football tips: Willy Caballero could be a bargain for opening weeks of Premier League season

The Chelsea keeper will get plenty of game time with Thibaut Courtois' situation up in the air

The Community Shield shed a little bit of light on what we could be in for this season.

Unsurprisingly Man City looked possibly even more fearsome, playing without a host of World Cup stars and leaving last season's highest scoring defender on Dream Team, Nicolas Otamendi, on the bench.

But there was another little pointer for your fantasy football team this year - Willy Caballero might be your secret weapon between the sticks.

4

Get these Blues players in your Dream Team

Eden Hazard - £6m

Belgian talisman scored 281 points last year.

Jorginho - £2.5m

Consistent midfielder will bring stability to Stamford Bridge.

Now you might have the memory of his horror show against Croatia in the World Cup which saw him lose his place in the team fresh in your mind but Caballero could be a key player in the opening weeks of the season.

The situation with Thibaut Courtois appears to be deteriorating rapidly as he pushes for a move to Real Madrid.

Maurizio Sarri has already questioned his commitment to the Blues and has made it clear that if he is not fully behind the team he won't be selected.

As we saw in the Community Shield Caballero is more than capable to stepping and thankfully for him they won't be playing teams like Man City most weeks.

Bad news for Courtois could be good news for Caballero

Chelsea face Huddersfield and Newcastle either side of a visit from Arsenal in the first three weeks before matches against Bournemouth and Cardiff.

If Sarri can get his defenders to understand his four-at-the-back system quickly then you could be looking at a realistic four clean sheets out of five games there.

Clean sheets for goalkeepers are as valuable as goals for strikers, so don't forget that.

4

Spend big on strikers and save money at the back

The only problem for goalkeepers is that they can only score one clean sheet per match, but strikers can score multiple goals.

So as any fantasy football player worth their salt knows, spend big on your attacking players and look in the bargain bin for defenders.

Caballero definitely falls in the latter category.

The Chelsea keeper costs just £1.5m on this year's Dream Team, level on price with the likes of Huddersfield's Jonas Lossl, Fulham's Marcus Bettinelli and Watford's Huerelho Gomes/

And to put it in context, Cabellero is £2m cheaper than Courtois, £2.5m cheaper than Ederson and a full £3m cheaper than David De Gea.

Need any more convincing?

Beat the crowd

Here's the winner.

So far only 0.2% of Dream Team managers have Caballero in their team.

While over half of managers have plumped for one of Ederson, Alisson or De Gea, there's potentiall for a lot of untapped points with Caballero in those first few weeks.

It's time to separate yourself from the crowd.

Go Willy.
