Fantasy football tips: Best Premier League players of the season so far – Alexandre Lacazette
- Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has been in whirlwind form in front of goal
Fantasy football is very much back on the menu with the Premier League returning after our brief and surprisingly enjoyable fling with the international break.
And over the next couple of days Dream Team are going to profile and praise the best players on show so far this season.
Our first knight in shining armour?
Even the most deluded Arsenal fan will probably accept Lacazette was a bit of a disappointment last season considering his pedigree at Lyon before that.
But after the #WengerOut brigade were granted their dying wish in the summer, the Frenchman has found a new lease of life under Unai Emery.
Looking razor sharp and forging a bristling bromance with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Lacazette has proved a Dream Team dynamo in the opening months of the season.
The 27-year-old has racked up 58 fantasy football points - a total bettered by only four players - and is already over a third of the way to overtaking his score from 2017/18.
He has five goals and three assists in all competitions so far despite starting just five of Arsenal's eight Premier League games.
Lacazette also averages a goal involvement (goal or assist) every 69.5 minutes.
In other words, more than one a game.
The big question was how Emery could get the best out of two out-and-out goalscorers, but he seems to have found a winning formula.
Between them Lacazette and Aubameyang have notched 110 Dream Team points and are the main reason why only Man City have scored more goals in the league than Arsenal.
Think Sturridge and Suarez from a few seasons ago, the top flight might have a new dynamic attacking duo to feast upon week in week out.
Arsenal are flying after nine wins on the spin and their upcoming fixtures suggest that record could be extended.
They have Leicester on Monday night, followed by Crystal Palace and Blackpool inbetween two clashes with Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League.
The visit of Liverpool in early November looks like their only really stern test in the coming weeks, meaning Lacazette should get plenty more opportunities to shine.
Arsenal fans believe they've 'got their Arsenal back' and the French hitman has been a vital cog in their renaissance.
At just £4.3m on Dream Team he's considerably cheaper than the likes of Roberto Firmino (£5.8m), Romelu Lukaku (£5.8m) and Aubameyang (£5.6m) yet outscoring the lot.
