Wolves director Jeff Shi told the club website: “We are delighted that Paul has agreed to become our new head coach.

“He arrives at Wolves with extensive managing experience at different levels, in recent years in the Premier League and the Championship.

“Myself and Kevin (Thelwell) have spent many hours with Paul during the lengthy interview process, and have been very impressed with his thoughts on football and his vision for Wolves.

“Ourselves and Paul share the same vision and the same mission, to achieve promotion from the Championship as soon as possible, and then aim for a higher goal in the Premier League.”

Wolves languish in 19th in the Championship following the Derby game, and former boss Walter Zenga was sacked 11 days ago.

Zenga lasted just 3 months at the club, replacing Kenny Jackett, who was controversially sacked in July.

Walter Zenga lasted just 3 months at Wolves

Lambert guided Wycombe to the League Cup semi-final in his first managerial job in England.

Then in 2011 came his crowning achievement, as he led Norwich to two promotions in two years before keeping the club in the Premier League a year later.

In 2012 he moved to Aston Villa where he managed to keep the sinking ship of a club in the top flight before being sacked and replaced by Tim Sherwood.

His last job was at Blackburn where he stepped down after six months at the end of last season.
