ONE FOR THE MOYES

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has a worse record in first 16 games in charge at Old Trafford than Louis van Gaal AND David Moyes

Moyes was roundly criticised to the point of becoming a figure of fun for United fans - but his record was better than Jose's

MANCHESTER UNITED could well be regretting sacking David Moyes back in April 2014.

Despite the former Everton boss becoming a laughing stock in many quarters during his time at Old Trafford, he had a better record from his first 16 games than both Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal.

Moyes was sacked after less than a year into the job. Interestingly, he is also the last United manager to have tasted an away victory in European competition.

Back in November 2013, Moyes was in charge of the side that hammered Bayer Leverkusen to make the knockout stages of the Champions League with a game to spare.

Mourinho, meanwhile, is struggling to even guide his side through this seaoson's Europa Cup competition after tonight's defeat in Turkey.

Jeremain Lens scored a screamer of a free-kick on a night of three wonder goals as Manchester United went down 2-1 to Fenerbahce.

Wayne Rooney scored a worldie consolation from 30 yards in the 88th minute, but it was not enough.
